“He is the best goalkeeper in the world”- Ajax goalkeeper André Onana praises Manuel Neuer

Bayern Munich star Manuel Neuer is “the most complete goalkeeper in the world” according to Ajax shot-stopper André Onana.

The Dutch side made the trip to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday to face the Bundesliga champions in the second round of Champions League group stages fixtures.

The match finished 1-1 with the visitors understandably more content with the final result than the German outfit.

After the match, Ajax goalkeeper Onana spoke of how much he admires Neuer’s talent and how he continuously tries to mould his own game in a bid to replicate the ability of the Germany number one.

Speaking via the official Ajax website, Onana said: “Manuel Neuer: he is the most complete goalkeeper in the world.

“Strong in the air, strong on the line, very good in one-on-one-situations and he always plays football. He likes taking risks just like me. I watch a lot of his matches, try to learn from him: from his rescues and from his mistakes, because he also makes them natural.

“When I saw him in action at the 2014 World Cup … Not normal, so many saves. I think he is the best goalkeeper of all time.”

Ajax continue Bayern’s difficult run

It didn’t take long for the Germans to put themselves in the lead after strong centre-back Mats Hummels was left unmarked following a Bayern free-kick and he expertly guided the ball home to put the hosts 1-0 up.

However, Ajax fought back and scored after full-back Noussair Mazraoui found himself one-on-one with Neuer and the Moroccan powered the ball into the back of the net.

The scores remained the same and Ajax will be more than happy to head back home with another point to add to their total of four so far.

For Bayern, they have now gone three games without a win in all competitions and will be looking back on this match as an opportunity missed for Niko Kovac’s men.

Ajax currently top Group E on goal difference with four points, with Bayern second, Benfica third on three points and AEK Athens bottom without a single point so far.
