Mourinho has not learned from Chelsea failings, saying Carragher

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has not learned from the circumstances which cost him his job at Chelsea in 2015, according to Jamie Carragher.

Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December 2015 just seven months after leading the Blues to the Premier League title following a poor start to the season.

Part of the reason was due to players reportedly being unwilling to play under Mourinho at Chelsea, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Eden Hazard accused of downing tools.

And it appears the same thing is starting to happen this season at Manchester United, with the Red Devils having already lost four games across all competitions.

The Red Devils are also four games without a win, drawing with Wolverhampton Wanderers, losing to Derby County and West Ham United before Tuesday’s draw with Valencia in the Champions League.

United’s poor run coincided with a reported falling out between Mourinho and star player Paul Pogba, with video footage emerging from one of the club’s training sessions showing a frosty exchange between the pair.

And former Liverpool defender Carragher believes Mourinho’s poor handling of his players has resulted in United’s poor form, something he has failed to learn from his second spell at Chelsea.

“I’m not speaking out of turn here,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“I had a conversation with Mourinho after he left Chelsea. He was manager at the Soccer Aid game, a charity game.

“It wasn’t just me and him so I’m not betraying confidence. There were four or five people there.

“The big thing he said he learnt from the Chelsea exit was that you couldn’t single out a player in a meeting in front of the other players because the players do not accept this now.

“But it looks as if he has gone back to that or is still doing that at Manchester United.

“He’s stripped Pogba of the captaincy, which I agreed with, but it sounds like it was in front of the players.

“The players don’t want that now and that’s why he has lost the dressing room, and it’s not the first time.”

United, currently 10th in the Premier League, will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Newcastle United on Saturday at Old Trafford.
