Man Utd club captain Antonio Valencia publicly apologises after ‘liking’ Jose Mourinho sack post

Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia has publicly apologised after he ‘liked’ an Instagram post asking for manager Jose Mourinho to be sacked.

The Red Devils are currently in terrible form both on and off the pitch after a difficult start to the 2018/19 campaign.

Mourinho’s men have so far lost to Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and, most recently, West Ham United in the Premier League already this season, while also losing at home to Championship outfit Derby County in the Carabao Cup.

They also failed to beat La Liga side Valencia on Tuesday at Old Trafford in their Champions League Group H match, which they drew 0-0, ramping up the criticism to another level.

After an Instagram post was uploaded following last night’s final whistle demanding the sacking of Mourinho, fans were shocked to see picture was ‘liked’ by none other than Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia.

The versatile full-back was quick to act following the incident, posting a tweet himself stating that it was a mistake and that he didn’t read the text of the post before liking it.

Valencia’s tweet read: “Yesterday, I liked a post on Instagram without reading the text that accompanied the picture. These are not my views and I apologise for this.

“I am fully supportive of the manager and my teammates. We are all giving our everything to improve the results.

The original post read: “I’m not even surprised about the outcome of this game.

“I always look forward to our games but recently Mourinho has made watching us a punishment. Something needs to change. It’s time for Mourinho to go.”

Man Utd’s embarrassing morning – a round-up

It has not been a good season for Manchester United so far and Wednesday morning was yet another day of negativity surrounding the Old Trafford club.

Of course, Valencia’s decision to like a post that supported the sacking of his boss wasn’t what the club needed in light of their recent criticisms.

Alongside that, the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have condemned Mourinho, who suggested they were to blame for United’s squad turning up late last night, just 45 minutes before kick-off.

United have been charged by Uefa for their late arrival to the match, with Mourinho blaming the lack of attendance of the GMP prior to their journey. However, the GMP have stated that enough time and warning was given to the club before last night’s incident for it to have been avoided.

On top of all that, the club’s spokesman for controversy, Paul Pogba, has once again spoken out to the press regarding seemingly in-house issues.

After reporters asked Pogba if he was allowed to discuss United issues with the press, Pogba admitted: “I’ve been told I’m not allowed”.

Whether Pogba understood the irony of his comment or not is just another problematic factor that is resonating from the direction of Manchester United this season.
