Man Utd v Juventus thoughts saw Serie A champions lose focus v Genoa, says Max Allegri

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has admitted his side were distracted in their Serie A draw against Genoa on Saturday.

The Old Lady dropped points for the first time this season, after drawing 1-1 with Genoa despite having taken the lead.

Juventus are still four points clear at the top of the table, ahead of Napoli in second, but should have kept their lead at six.

And Allegri has admitted his side had one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Manchester United, which contributed to the dropped points.

“We left the game after a good start,” he told Sky Sport Italia (via Goal).

“We conceded a goal from a loss of focus. These are situations that shouldn’t happen. They’re games in which the Scudetto can be won and lost.

“We played, from a certain point of view, with our heads in Manchester. We had to win. We went from frantic to sleeping and vice versa.”

“A good 10 minutes before the goal, we were already drifting out of the game,” he said. “It was coming; we could see it from the touchline. I think it’ll be good for us. Everyone will now remember that nothing can be taken for granted.

“The ball was bouncing around for three or four seconds, so we had all the time needed to go and mark the players in the box, but we had already been drifting out of the game for a while earlier.”

Juventus’ match against Manchester United pits the top two sides in Group H together with the Old Lady knowing a win would see them take control, currently two points ahead of their opponents.

Juventus’ perfect start comes to an end

Prior to Saturday’s match against Genoa, Juventus were one of two teams in Europe’s top five leagues to have a perfect record – alongside Paris Saint-Germain, whose perfect start continues in France.

The Old Lady kicked off the season with a tight 3-2 win over Chievo, following it up with a 2-0 victory against Lazio.

Two 2-1 wins followed either side of the September international break, against Parma and Sassuolo, which were followed by consecutive 2-0 wins over Frosinone and Bologna.

Juventus then saw off last season’s Serie A runners-up Napoli with a 3-1 win before beating Udinese 2-0 for eight straight wins. But it would not stretch to nine with Genoa becoming the first team to take points off the defending Italian champions.
