Lionel Messi is the best player of all time, according to former Barcelona teammate Xavi.
The 38-year-old central midfielder is currently playing for Qatari club Al Sadd SC, and in an interview given to Il Corriere dello Sport, via Calcio Mercato, Xavi spoke about Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Leo is the best player I have played with. The only one who can make the difference by himself and in every moment,” said Xavi.
To which the interviewer asked: “More than Cristiano Ronaldo?”
Xavi replied: “Yes, no doubt. Messi is the best player in the world to me. Actually, he is the best in history.”
The interviewer then asked: “Messi has a lifetime bond with Barcelona and is planning a new contract renewal, while CR7 has left Madrid to join Juventus. Did you expect it?”
“Yes, because Ronaldo wasn’t bound to Real Madrid as Messi is with the Blaugrana shirt. I don’t see anything strange with Ronaldo’s move to Juventus.
“Maybe he wanted to try a new experience in a club that could guarantee him to win the Champions League.”
The 31-year-old Messi is currently recuperating from a fractured arm, which will see him miss out on the next three weeks of football at least.
The injury means the Argentinian will certainly be sidelined for El Clasico this weekend and when his team take on Inter Milan in their next two Champions League games, which includes Wednesday’s game, with both sides on six points.
