Spurs can be ‘out of touch with reality’ sometimes, says Eric Dier

Eric Dier believes Tottenham can be ‘out of touch with reality’ sometimes in their endeavour to be Premier League title challengers.

After a tough run of results in September, which saw the north London club lose against Watford, Liverpool and Inter Milan, Spurs are now back to winning ways in the Premier League, having won their last three league games.

Their latest victory came in the form of a 1-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday with Dier scoring the winning goal, his first strike since April 2017.

And the England international has told Spurs TV (via Goal) that his teammates should be happy with the start they have made so far, with Spurs now just two points off the top of the league.

“At times things haven’t felt very good at the beginning of this season,” the 24-year-old said. “Maybe we’re a bit out of touch with reality sometimes. We always want to do better. Overall, we’ve had a really positive start.

“We wanted to start well. In recent years it may be one of the criticisms that we haven’t started so well.

“I think we can be happy where we are. We can always do better and now when we get back from international duty there’s a chance for us to keep improving.”

Despite only winning 1-0 against a Cardiff side with 10 men, Spurs dominated the game throughout the 90 minutes, with Dier adding that he and his teammates would have been very unlucky to come away from Wembley with anything other than a victory.

He continued: “I thought we controlled the game throughout, created a lot of chances and the only negative is that we’ve only come away with one goal, I feel like it should have been a lot more.

“It would have been really disappointing if we’d conceded a goal. They had a chance from a set-piece where I think I should have done better myself and a few half-chances, but nothing very clear. For the most part and overall, we can be happy.

“We’ve got the clean sheet, we’ve won and we can go into the international break feeling positive.”

Tottenham’s next game is away to West Ham after the international break.
