Arsenal deliver official statement on Rob Holding injury

Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding has been ruled out for six-to-nine months after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Manchester United on Wednesday, the club have confirmed.

The defender had become a prominent part of Unai Emery’s defence in recent weeks and many believe he was playing the best football of his Arsenal career before his injury.

On Thursday, Emery said the severity of Holding’s injury had not been confirmed, but admitted he feared the issue was “not good”.

The England youth international is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days.

An Arsenal statement read:

Further to the injury sustained during our match at Manchester United on Wednesday night, we can confirm that Rob Holding has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.

Rob will undergo surgery to repair this in the coming days. The rehabilitation process is expected to take between six to nine months.

Everyone at the club will now be working as hard as we can to ensure Rob is back on the pitch as soon as possible.
