Chelsea legend puts Spurs star on the same level as Drogba and co

Joe Cole has hailed Harry Kane as ‘one of the best number nines he has ever seen’.

The Spurs striker won and converted a penalty to give his side a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday night, taking his goal tally to 20 in all competitions this season.

Is Harry Kane the best striker in the world? Five key things to know…

  1. Harry Kane won and scored a penalty to give Tottenham a 1-0 win over Chelsea on Tuesday night.
  2. That goal was his 20th of the season and his 160th overall in a Spurs shirt.
  3. Kane is now the outright top goalscorer in English football this season and Spurs’ fourth-highest all-time marksman.
  4. The England international is also the first Spurs player to score 20+ goals in five consecutive seasons.
  5. After Tuesday’s game, Joe Cole hailed Kane as ‘one of the best number nines he’s ever seen’.

The emphatic manner of Kane’s penalty and his movement to win it in the first place left Joe Cole, as well as former Spurs striker Robbie Keane, very impressed in the Sky Sports studio after the match.

“If you look at Harry early on in his career, he had to deal with knock-backs, going on loan and not coming back, so he’s built up such a store of mental strength inside him,” Cole said.

“I can’t believe people question him at all. I think he’s one of the best number nines I’ve ever seen, I really do think he’s a top-class player.”

Meanwhile, Keane, who scored 122 goals for Tottenham during his playing days, was equally impressed, adding: “There’s no question that he can get to that Jimmy Greaves record.

“He keeps coming on the pitch and keeps scoring goals. For me, at this moment in time, he’s the best number nine in the world.”

Tottenham’s next game is at home to Manchester United on Sunday.

Can Harry Kane become Spurs’ all-time top goalscorer?

Harry Kane’s goal against Chelsea on Tuesday made him the outright top goalscorer in English football this season with 20.

More prominently, however, was the fact that it was his 160th strike in a Spurs shirt, taking him to fourth place in the club’s all-time goalscoring charts.

Kane has a long way to go if he is to catch Jimmy Greaves’ 266-goal record but given that he is still only 25-years-old and playing in a side regularly challenging for the top spots in the Premier League table, the England international may well be built to smash this particular accolade.
