Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed the club have no interest in signing Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Madrid shot-stopper in the January transfer window.
Do Arsenal need Navas? Here is what you need to know…
- Navas was Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper for a number of seasons under former club boss Zinedine Zidane.
- With the arrival of former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the summer, Navas has been demoted to second choice.
- The Costa Rican international has only made two appearances in La Liga this season.
- Spanish newspaper Sport suggested that Emery was prepared to bring the 32-year-old to London.
- Emery has insisted he is happy with the ‘keepers he already has, including Bernd Leno and Petr Cech.
Speaking to reporters regarding the potential transfer of the Madrid goalkeeper to the Emirates club, Emery was quick to shut down any rumours of a deal, insisting that the club hasn’t discussed the player and are happy with the choices at their disposal in the current Arsenal ranks.
The Arsenal manager said (via Goal): “Not true. We never speak about one goalkeeper because I think – and it’s true – we are very happy with the three goalkeepers we have now.
“We’ve never spoken about Keylor Navas.”

Goalkeepers galore
As Emery pointed out, the Gunners currently have three respected goalkeepers in their ranks and adding another is understandably not a priority for the former Paris Saint-Germain boss.
In the summer, Emery signed Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee of £22.5 million and the German has started the vast majority of Arsenal’s games this season.
Leno has been largely successful – but for the odd mistake – since his league debut in September, conceding 22 goals in 15 matches in the Premier League.
Behind him is the experienced Petr Cech who is arguably one of the best backup goalkeepers any club has in their squad, with the former Chelsea ‘keeper full of experience and genuine quality, despite his age and inability to adapt to Emery’s more passing-based tactics.
The third choice is Emiliano Martinez who has spent a long time at the club without breaking into the starting XI. If Navas did join Arsenal, where would he place in the goalkeeper ranking order?
