Liverpool outcast makes £19m move to Bournemouth after just one goal

Bournemouth have signed striker Dominic Solanke from Liverpool for a reported £19m fee.

The 21-year-old initially looked to be joining Crystal Palace on loan, before Roy Hodgson confirmed the club had pulled the plug on the deal due to fitness concerns.

Why has Solanke moved to Bournemouth? Five key things to know…

  1. Solanke moved to Liverpool from Chelsea in 2017 and made 27 appearances for Klopp’s side last year.
  2. The 21-year-old only managed one goal for Liverpool, however, on the final day of the season against Brighton.
  3. Solanke won the Player of the Tournament award as England won the 2017 U-20 World Cup.
  4. The striker found his chances restricted at Anfield this season, failing to make a single appearance for the first team.
  5. Solanke claims to be excited to join Bournemouth, a club he says is ‘going somewhere’.

However, Eddie Howe has now swooped for the former Chelsea youngster, who won the Player of the Tournament award at the 2017 Under-20 World Cup, with Jermaine Defoe expected to leave the Cherries for Rangers in this transfer window.

Solanke is excited to be at a club that is ‘going somewhere’, saying (via BBC Sport): “The club is going somewhere – it’s a good club to be at, especially for someone of my age.”

Solanke made 27 appearances for the Liverpool first team but is yet to appear in a senior game this season. It is also reported that Nathanial Clyne will be following Solanke to the south coast in a loan deal.

Howe excited to add the ‘gifted’ Solanke to his ranks

With Jermaine Defoe set to leave Bournemouth for Rangers this month, Eddie Howe was understandably keen to bolster his attacking options, with Solanke’s much younger age an added bonus for the Cherries boss.

“Dominic is technically gifted, very athletic and has the physical profile that will give us something different in our front line,” said the 41-year-old.

Bournemouth currently sit 12th in the Premier League table and face an away trip to Everton in their next league match, following an FA Cup tie with Brighton on Saturday.
