A recent post by the CIES Football Observatory has revealed their 100 most valuable players across Europe’s top five leagues.
The Swiss-based research group, which specialises in the statistical analysis of football, used their unique algorithm to compile the list.
Kylian Mbappé (£196m), who turned 20 last month, came on top followed by Harry Kane (£180m) and Paris Saint-Germain teammate – currently the world’s most expensive footballer – Neymar (£177m).
Kane is one of 45 based in the Premier League to feature in the top 100 – which got us thinking. How would a combined XI look like?

GK: Alisson (Liverpool)
What’s he worth? £95.4m
For several days Alisson was the world’s most expensive goalkeeper after swapping AS Roma for Liverpool last summer – before Chelsea signed Kepa Arrizabalaga. His addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad has been transformative as the Reds seek a first championship since 1990.
Key stat: Alisson has kept more clean sheets than any Premier League goalkeeper this season (12).
Runner-up: Ederson (£90.4m)
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
What’s he worth? £105.8m
A graduate of Liverpool’s esteemed academy the Liverpudlian, now Klopp’s first choice right-back, is on the pathway to becoming his boyhood team’s captain following in the footsteps of idol Steven Gerrard.
Key stat: Trent Alexander-Arnold has played more accurate long-balls than any Premier League right-back this season (61).
Runner-up: Kyle Walker (£69.5m)
CB: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
What’s he worth? £85.8m
It’s hard to summarise what an incredible signing Van Dijk has been for Liverpool. His arrival in January 2018 has coincided with the Reds extraordinary defensive improvement and the centre-back looks invaluable for Jurgen Klopp.
Key stat: Virgil van Dijk became the world’s most expensive defender (£75m) in signing for Liverpool from Southampton.
Runner-up: Dávinson Sánchez (£84.5m)
CB: Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City)
What’s he worth? £94.1m
Yet to stamp his mark on international football – Laporte remains eligible to represent France or Spain – the Frenchman has been a revelation for Pep Guardiola’s team, where he is now one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Key stat: Aymeric Laporte has played more passes than any other defender across Europe’s top five leagues this season (1791).
Runner-up: Antonio Rüdiger (£75.1m)
LB: Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)
What’s he worth? £74.4m
What a debut season Robertson had as a Liverpool player. He’s only gone from strength to strength in this campaign and is a legitimate candidate to be considered as Europe’s pre-eminent left-back.
Key stat: Andy Robertson assisted more goals than any Premier League defender in 2018 (seven).
Runner-up: Marcos Alonso (£58.8m)
DM: N’Golo Kanté (Chelsea)
What’s he worth? £87.8m
Kanté, despite Chelsea’s recent struggles, remains the very best in his position. The 27-year-old’s innate ability to retain possession is as good as ever.
Key stat: N’Golo Kante has scored as many Premier League goals this season (three) as he managed during the rest of his career in English football.
Runner-up: Eric Dier (£73.3m)
CM: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur)
What’s he worth? £135.6m
Alli, who doesn’t turn 23 until this April, is already brushing shoulders with the very best deep-lying forward’s but can still improve which is a scary proposition.
Key stat: Dele Alli has a higher total of Premier League goals and assists (68) than Frank Lampard (33), Paul Scholes (18) and Steven Gerrard (13) did at the age of 22.
Runner-up: Paul Pogba (£117.7m)
CM: Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)
What’s he worth? £120.9m
Silva, who began life at Manchester City slowly, has come on leaps and bounds under Guardiola who sang his praises earlier this season. It’s no longer the case of him not being guaranteed a starting berth when everyone is available.
Key stat: Bernardo Silva has attempted more tackles per 90 minutes than any Manchester City player with over 1,000 Premier League minutes this season (3).
Runner-up: Kevin De Bruyne (£86.4m)
RW: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
What’s he worth? £165m
A wondrous season, in which he seemingly won every prize, has cemented Salah as one of the world’s very best players and despite concerns, the Egyptian winger is steadily reaching those heights again.
Key stat: Mohamed Salah has been involved in more goals (20) than any Premier League player this season (13 goals + seven assists).
Runner-up: Leroy Sané (£141m)
CF: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
What’s he worth? £180m
There is a serious argument that Kane is the best centre-forward around. Robert Lewandowski and Luis Suárez are worthy competition but the Englishman continues to match them stride for stride at times surging ahead.
Key stat: No one has scored more Premier League goals than Harry Kane this season (14).
Runner-up: Romelu Lukaku (£146.3m)
LW: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)
What’s he worth? £167m
No longer just a promising talent, Sterling is the real deal. A defender’s nightmare. He’s now added regular goals to his play. Given the trajectory he’s on it won’t be long before the Londoner is in the world’s best conversation.
Key stat: Raheem Sterling has been involved in 16 goals this season (nine goals + seven assists) – more than any Manchester City player.
Runner-up: Sadio Mané (£124.1m)
