The calendar year just passed saw Manchester City become the first team to score 100 points in a single Premier League season.
Their rivals for the crown this year, Liverpool, have matched them for points (88) in the top flight across the 12 months, and no team in the competition conceded fewer goals (22). The Reds also fired their way to a Champions League final – which was won for a third consecutive year by Real Madrid.
And who could forget the extremely talented France squad that claimed the nation’s second-ever World Cup?
Elsewhere, Luka Modric broke the Lionel Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo decade-long duopoly over the Ballon d’Or after guiding Croatia to the World Cup final after picking up yet another European Cup winner’s medal with Los Blancos.
And so, ahead of the festive period, Jake Entwistle was joined by Muhammad Butt and Thomas Rooney to review football in 2018. Who was the best team? Who was the most memorable? Who were brightest stars?
You can listen to the debate below:
In the second part of the festive special, Jake is joined by FansBet ambassador and former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson to look ahead to January’s Star Sixes tournament before finding out who is the best goalkeepers in the world right now.
