Dortmund confirm Andre Schurrle has been “released for talks” with unnamed suitor

Borussia Dortmund winger Andre Schurrle has been “released for talks” with an unnamed club amid rumours that the German is to depart the club this summer.

Schurrle has been at Dortmund for two years after signing from Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg for an undisclosed fee. Prior to his tenure at Wolfsburg, Schurrle was part of the Chelsea squad who won the Premier League title in the 2014/15 season.

While plying his trade with ‘Die Schwarzgelben’, the 27-year-old has played 51 matches in all competitions across two seasons, scoring eight goals and providing a further nine assists.

However, his time at the club could soon be over, with his absence from the Dortmund squad – currently out in America for their pre-season warm-ups –  igniting rumours of a summer exit.

“Of course, we won’t tell you which club it is,” a team spokesman said (via Goal).

“He is released for talks for another club.”

If Schurrle leaves Dortmund the club that acquires him will have a player of proven quality entering the peak of his career.

The former Premier League man was part of the German 2014 World Cup winning squad four years ago, collecting his winner’s medal after setting up Mario Gotze during extra-time in Germany’s 1-0 final win over Argentina.
