Thomas Tuchel takes dig at Arsenal after 5-1 defeat

Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel was clearly not in a good mood following his side’s humbling 5-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal.

Both were contesting an International Champions Cup fixture in Singapore which meant Tuchel faced his predecessor Unai Emery, who is now seeking to make the Gunners a force once again.

Naturally the Parisians were missing a number of their star players, many still on holiday following this summer’s World Cup finals, and when asked if PSG missed them Tuchel agreed before making an unwarranted dig towards their English opponents.

“Yes, clearly,” he said. “I think they [Arsenal] are playing in the Europa League this season, right?”

Arsenal fans react

Before the controversial statement Arsenal fans saw playmaker Mesut Ozil put the Gunners into an early lead before PSG youngster Christopher Nkunku equalised with 30 minutes left on the clock.

And that is when the floodgates opened. Alexandre Lacazette would bag two goals inside four minutes before late efforts from Rob Holding and Edward Nketiah.

As you can imagine Tuchel’s comment regarding Arsenal’s present European football status didn’t sit well with the Gunners faithful.

Some felt it was unnecessary given the status of the fixture they played –  it’s still pre-season after all – whilst others questioned why a manager would play down the Europa League.
