Pre-season is now in full swing, the World Cup is now becoming a distant, fond memory and, for English clubs at least, the transfer deadline is looming large.
With Barcelona snatching Malcolm from under the noses of AS Roma, Richarlison’s move from Watford to Everton increasing the tension between the two clubs, and a host of high-profile friendlies in the International Champions Cup competition, you would be forgiven for missing some of the smaller deals going through last week.
Here are some of last week’s transfers that may have slipped the net:
Davy Klaassen
From: Everton
To: Werder Bremen
Transfer fee: £12m
DONE DEAL: Davy Klaassen has joined @werderbremen from Everton on a permanent deal after just one season at the Premier League club.

Despite leaving a dignified message to Evertonians on his twitter page, Davy Klaassen will probably be massively relieved to have completed his move to German Bundesliga side, Werder Bremen.
Just three Premier League starts and 251 minutes of league football last season, Klaassen will leave Everton with pretty much nothing to remember his time there by, he didn’t manage a single goal or assist during his spell on Merseyside.
The £12m fee that Werder Bremen have paid Everton represents just half of what the Toffees paid Ajax for his services a year ago – they will probably be over the moon to have even got that much back for him.
There is a talented player in Klaassen – the Dutch international scored 14 and assisted nine goals during his final year at Ajax – and Bremen will be hoping they can harness that this season.
Joao Moutinho
From: Monaco
To: Wolverhampton Wanderers
Transfer fee: £5m
Temos o prazer de confirmar que @JoaoMoutinho assinou com o Wolves um contrato de dois anos. #BemVindoJoão
— Wolves Português (@WolvesPRT) July 24, 2018
The third-most capped player in Portuguese football, a league title winner in France and Portugal, a Europa League winner and a 2016 European Championship winner – all for the tidy sum of £5m.
In Joao Moutinho, Wolves seemed to have snapped up one of the bargains of this summer’s transfer window.
At 31-years-old, Moutinho is nowhere near over the hill yet and could still keep producing for a number of years – he played over 2800 minutes of Ligue 1 football for Monaco last season and contributed six assists.
Wolves, through their relationship with super-agent Jorge Mendes, have made some very astute signings this summer with many tipping them to be a strong surprise package in the Premier League this season.
Jonny Castro
From: Atletico Madrid
To: Wolverhampton Wanderers
Fee: Loan
We are delighted to confirm that Jonny Castro Otto has joined Wolves on a season-long loan from @Atleti. #BienvenidoJonny
— Wolves (@Wolves) July 25, 2018
Sticking with Wolves, Jonny Castro is another astute signing that may have gone under the radar outside of the West Midlands.
The full-back had a whirlwind of a week, completing a £6.3m deal to join Atletico Madrid from Celta Vigo on Wednesday before being shipped straight to Wolves on loan a day later.
For a 24-year-old, Castro is already immensely experienced having played over 200 times for Celta Vigo and picking up 34 caps for Spain at youth level, and adds more quality to an already strong Wolves side.
Andre Shurrle
From: Borussia Dortmund
To: Fulham
Fee: Loan
It was good to see you out on the pitch in a @FulhamFC shirt, @Andre_Schuerrle ⚪️#FFC pic.twitter.com/mvvVDwDrK3
— Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) July 29, 2018
Another eye-catching signing from one of the Premier League’s newcomers, a two-year loan deal for Andre Shurlle represents great business for Fulham.
With 22 goals in 57 caps for German, and 11 goals in 44 league games during his spell with Chelsea, Shurlle comes to Craven Cottage with a wealth of top-level footballing pedigree – and at 27-years-old, he still has plenty left to give.
Fulham are another side being tipped to have a decent season and, with the potential to have Shurlle on one side and Sessegnon on the other, could cause havoc in the Premier League this term.
Gelson Martins
From: Sporting Lisbon
To: Atletico Madrid
Fee: Free
We sat down with @GelsonMartins_ for his first-ever interview as an Atlético:”I'm going to give it my all for Atlético.“⚪#AúpaAtleti pic.twitter.com/rsxgvRk0BV
— Atlético de Madrid (@atletienglish) July 28, 2018
With Sporting Lisbon absolutely imploding in recent months and fans attacking the players at the club’s traning complex, a very talented side has been largely broken up.
One of the players to leave Sporting amid the hostility is the exciting winger, Gelson Martins.
Martins played 140 times for Sporting, scoring 27 goals and assisting another 30.
He was part of Portugal’s World Cup squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia and, as a free transfer, represents a very safe gamble for Atletico Madrid.
Jordy Clasie
From: Southampton
To: Feyenoord
Fee: Loan
Jordy Clasie returns to De Kuip https://t.co/P44J8QyjRP
— Feyenoord Rotterdam (@Feyenoord_int) July 25, 2018
Clasie joined Southampton from Feyenoord for £8m in 2015 and brought a big reputation with him.
He was a part of the Dutch side that finished third in the 2014 World Cup, making two appearences at the tournament, had played 129 league games for Feyenoord as they finished as Dutch runners-up twice in four years.
However, as is the case with many players that come to England from the Eredivise, it just didn’t work out for Clasie. He failed to impose himself on the Saints starting lineup and, after spending last season winning the Belgian league title on loan with Club Brugge, Clasie is now returning to Feyenoord to try to resurrect a promising career.
Tim Krul
From: Brighton and Hove Albion
To: Norwich City
Fee: Free

— Norwich City FC (@NorwichCityFC) July 26, 2018
With 186 appearances under his belt for Newcastle, as well as eight caps for the Netherlands, many were surprised to see Tim Krul consistently left on the bench for Brighton last season.
However, with Matthew Ryan performing well between the sticks, that is exactly what happened and Krul managed just five cup appearances for The Seagulls.
And with Angus Gunn’s loan spell ending and him joining Southampton, Krul may find himself getting a lot more minutes in the Championship this season.
Diego Rico
From: Leganes
To: Bournemouth
Fee: £10.7m
🆕 to @OfficialFPL. A defender option for the season ahead?

Defender
£4.5m#afcb pic.twitter.com/aH0P1dnZfY— AFC Bournemouth (@afcbournemouth) July 26, 2018
With German giants, Borussia Dortmund, reportedly interested in the Spanish left-back, Bournemouth’s capture of Diego Rico from Leganes seems all-the-more impressive – and gives a huge indicator to just how powerful the Premier League is becoming.
Rico, who started his career at Zaragoza, made 26 La Liga appearances for Leganes last season, scoring and assisting two goals. He will provide some much-needed reinforcements to the Cherries’ defence.
Alireza Jahanbakhsh
From: AZ Alkmaar
To: Brighton and Hove Albion
Fee: £17m

— Brighton & Hove Albion ⚽️ (@OfficialBHAFC) July 27, 2018
Coming back to the south coast, Brighton have broken their transfer record with a £17m move for Iranian striker, Alireza Jahanbakhsh.
Jahanbakhsh scored 21 goals for AZ Alkmaar last season and became the first ever Iranian to be a top scorer in a major European league.
And despite so many players struggling when making the switch from Holland to England, if Jahanbakhsh can hit the ground running for the Seagulls, then he will certainly help take the pressure off Glen Murray’s ageing shoulders.
Fabian Schar
From: Deportivo La Coruna
To: Newcastle United
Fee: £3m
New signing @fabianschaer got a taste of the St. James' Park atmosphere six years ago – and now he can't wait to walk out there as a Newcastle United player.

Yet again, fans on Tyneside are not happy with Mike Ashley – and neither is Rafa Benitez.
The Spanish coach is frustrated at a lack of transfer funds and fans are threatening to boycott the club if Benitez leaves his position as manager.
However, the Magpies were still able to bring in some reinforcements last week and the first of those signings was Swiss defender, Fabian Schar.
After featuring 25 times in La Liga last season for Deportivo, Schar then played three times at the World Cup this summer as Switzerland reached the last-16 – he averaged three aerial dual wins per game in Russia.
Whether he is being brought in to partner Jamal Lascelles or replace him remains one of the biggest questions for Newcastle fans.
Yoshinori Muto
From: Mainz
To: Newcastle United
Fee: £9.5m
ICYMI… Japan international forward Yoshinori Muto has been on Tyneside ahead of a proposed move to the club.

— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) July 28, 2018
Despite receiving a mixed reaction from the Newcastle faithful, their singing for Yoshinori Muto from Mainz gives the Magpies some much needed attacking reinforcements – they only managed 39 goals in the league last season.
Muto only played once for Japan at this summer’s World Cup but managed 10 goals across all competitions in a Mainz side that barely avoided relegation from Germany’s top flight.
Newcastle will hope that an increase in quality service from the likes of Ayoze Perez and Jonjoe Shelvey will increase the 26-year-old’s return this season.
