Carlo Ancelotti can reinvent Marek Hamsik a la Pirlo, claims Napoli star’s agent

Marek Hamsik’s has regained his enthusiasm since Carlo Ancelotti arrived at Napoli according to Slovakian teammate Martin Petras.

Hamsik wanted to move to China at the end of last season, but had a change of heart after Ancelotti took over and re-positioned him into a holding midfield role.

Petras who is a compatriot and close friend of Hamsik thinks Ancelotti can extend his career at the Partenopei like he extended Andrea Pirlo’s career when he changed his position at Milan.

“Hamsik has adapted to the role much faster than he imagined,” Petras said on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, according to Football Italia.

“Marek is a top player and players like him fit in right away. Ancelotti has worked with very strong players throughout his career, so if he’s had this intuition there’ll be a reason.

“He extended [Andrea] Pirlo’s career thanks to a change of role, and it can be the same for Hamsik. Hamsik has rediscovered his enthusiasm, it must be said he’d lost it in the past few months.”

Petras added: “He’s too nice. He knows how to take free-kicks and penalties, he should do it more. Take last year for example, he was missing a blessed goal to reach [Diego] Maradona, which inevitably affected it because everyone talked about it.

“There was a match where they got a penalty and he didn’t step up to the spot, he left it to his teammates. If [Maurizio] Sarri had told a Neapolitan he’d always be taken off after 60 minutes, where do you think he’d have told him to go?

“We’re sure he’ll do very well in his new role, he has all the characteristics.”

As well as convincing Hamsik to stay in Naples, Ancelotti has forked out on a number of new players this summer.

Their most expensive signing so far is central midfielder Fabian Ruiz who joined from Real Betis for £26m, filling the space left by Jorginho who departed Naples to join his former coach Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.

The Partenopei have also acquired winger Simone Verdi from Bologna for £22m, and goalkeeper Alex Meret who joined from Udinese for £19m.

Napoli’s opening game in Serie A is against Lazio on August 19, and they will face Juventus at the end of September.

The Partenopei play Liverpool in a friendly on August 4.
