Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Why I look out for “data” on Salah and Ronaldo

Arsenal forward Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has revealed that he watches videos of his matches and pays close attention to his performance data to improve his game.

The Arsenal squad are currently on tour in Singapore where they defeated Paris Saint-Germain 5-1 in a pre-season friendly at the New Singapore National Stadium on Saturday.

Aubameyang’s frightening pace is a nightmare for defenders and has seen him emerge as one of the most prolific goalscorers over the past five seasons. During his time in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund he scored 141 goals in 213 games.

Part of the Arsenal star’s success might be down to how meticulous he is in staying on top of his performance levels, as the Gabon international has revealed how he likes to keep up to date with his data.

“Speed, of course. Everybody knows about my speed. It’s all my life,’ he told The Straits Times (via Metro).

“I like to watch videos of my matches and training and read data about my speed and distance.

“That’s important as it helps me improve every day.

“This year, at a training session, I did 37kmh. It’s a good score. (Kylian) Mbappe did the same at the World Cup. I’m 29 now, so it’s not bad (Mbappe is 19).

“I do look out for data on other players like (Mohamed) Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Arsenal’s transfer window

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has been restricted to £50m budget for this summer’s transfer window so far, but the Spaniard has managed to secure some bargains in a bid to improve upon the Gunners’ previous outing in the Premier League which saw them win just one away game during 2018 – against Huddersfield Town on the final day of the season.

Newly-arrived defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira will bring some much needed composure to their central midfield, while the arrival of goalkeeper Bernd Leno and centre-back Sokratis will provide the north London club with greater depth.

Arsenal kick off their Premier League campaign against champions Manchester City on 12 August at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners haven’t defeated City in five of their previous league meetings.
