Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic has always aspired to play in the Premier League, according to the player’s father.
Pulisic, 19, has been linked with a move away from Dortmund this summer with Liverpool the likeliest destination according to reports.
The American international joined Dortmund while current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was in charge at Dortmund in 2015 but did not make an appearance for the first team until after the German’s departure.
As a child, Pulisic spent a year in England as part of his development, and the midfielder’s father, Mark Pulisic has revealed his son was fond of the Premier League and will likely make a move at some point.
“There’s always change,” he told Sky Sports when asked about his son’s future.
“You can think one thing, then you do it, and at the end of the day it wasn’t the right thing.
“Football is crazy. You have to go with the flow and make sure the player feels comfortable, whatever the decision is. There’s no magic formula.
“Is it right to stay at Dortmund? Who knows. Is it right to move to another club? He might think it is, or someone else might think it is, but it might not be in the player’s mind.
“The only thing we can do is continue to talk with him and make sure he’s always in the loop of what’s going on, present all the facts and the content of what can happen, or will happen. It’s up to the player to make that final call.”
And when asked specifically about a move to the Premier League, Mark Pulisic added: “Yeah, of course.
“The Premier League is a league where he’s always aspired to be in and play in. As a player nowadays, there are so few players staying at one club throughout a career, the chances of him moving to different clubs and leagues is a high probability.”
Before playing down any rumours of an immediate move, however.
“He was linked to Tottenham. Last week it was Liverpool. The week before Man United. The week before this… it’s hogwash.
“He’s linked with a different club every week. Right now, Christian plays for Dortmund and that’s where he is planning on playing again next year.”
Pulisic went up against Liverpool for Dortmund during the Reds’ pre-season tour of the United States. Coming on at half-time, the American helped his side come from behind to beat Liverpool 3-1, scoring twice and playing a part in the third goal.
Pulisic’s senior career so far
Making his move from America to Dortmund in 2015, Pulisic was giving his first appearance for the first team in January 2016.
Since then, the midfielder has gone on to make 97 appearances for the club scoring 12 goals and recording 20 assists.
The 19-year-old has also received 21 caps so far for the United States national team and is widely regarded as the future of the squad.
