Why Thomas Tuchel wants a word with ex-PSG boss Unai Emery

Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel hopes to sit down and discuss football with his predecessor Unai Emery.

The 44-year-old German tactician succeeded Emery at the end of last season ending a year-long sabbatical in the process.

Emery ultimately joined Arsenal, taking over from long-serving and legendary manager Arsene Wenger, and before the pair locked horns in a pre-season friendly Tuchel was keen to get to know the man he followed.

“I would like to talk to him,” he told reporters (via Goal). “I never did that with any of my previous jobs [speak with the previous manager].

“Unai is one of the most successful coaches in Europe. He has won lot of titles last year.

“He sent me a warm message. I was very thankful and it shows his character and the competitor that he is.

“I would love to talk about football with him in detail.”

Emery got the better of his former side in the friendly in Singapore as Arsenal beat a severely weakened PSG 5-1.

Tuchel’s last role

Before moving to Paris the well-regarded Tuchel led Borussia Dortmund, after taking over the reigns from current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, between 2015 and 2017.

He would ultimately oversee no fewer than 107 matches: winning 69 of those contests giving him a success rate of 64.5% and losing just 18 times.

Under him BVB would register 260 goals (once every 37 minutes) and conceded 121 (or 1.13 per game). His only trophy success came in the 2017 German Cup final, at the expense of Eintracht Frankfurt, which proved to be his final game.
