Pochettino reacts to latest Bale to Spurs transfer rumours

Mauricio Pochettino has said any attempt to re-sign Gareth Bale would be “unrealistic” amid rumours Tottenham are interested in the Welshman.

Comments made by Bale following his two-goal display in May’s Champions League final led to suggestions the former Spurs star could seek a summer exit from Real Madrid, where he has scored 88 goals in 189 appearances.

Bale has won the Champions League four times since leaving Tottenham for Madrid in 2013, but a lack of first-team football last season has led to questions marks over his future with the European champions.

A possible return to Spurs has inevitably been mooted, but Pochettino laughed when the notion was raised during his side’s pre-season tour of the US.

“It’s not realistic,” Pochettino said with a smile, according to the Independent.

Will Bale stay at the Bernabeu?

Bale’s relationship with the former Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane, appeared to be strained after the 29-year-old was left on the bench for the Champions League final.

But the forward’s double against Liverpool, including a stunning overhead kick, was a reminder of the quality he possesses.

And with a new manager, Julen Lopetegui, in the dugout – combined with Cristiano Ronaldo’s surprise exit to Juventus – Bale now has the opportunity to lead the line and become Madrid’s talisman.

Manchester United have also been rumoured to hold an interest in Bale, but Madrid may be keen to hold onto the £85m-man.
