Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti denies Lionel Messi bid stories

Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti has dismissed speculation that the Italian club are interested in signing Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

The Italian club have been linked with the Argentinian super star following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to the champions Juventus.

Stories emerged last week that Inter could be looking to sign Messi citing it as a response to Ronaldo’s move to the peninsula, but Zanetti has been quick to deny this.

The excitement was fanned by Marco Tronchetti Provera, chief executive of Pirelli, one of the Nerazzurri’s main sponsors, when he suggested that Messi could end up at the Giuseppe Meazza this summer.

Zanetti has insisted that there is no truth in the stories and added that the club are happy with the strikers they already possess.

“It’s absolutely crazy and there is no truth in any of the stories that we were going to ask for Messi,” he told Fox Sports Argentina (via Football Espana), before saying he was more than happy with Inter’s two main strikers, Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez, with the former having been linked with a move away.

“We are happy with both and Icardi’s staying. We’ll sit down with him shortly to discuss a renewal.

“He’s a great professional and has been Inter’s captain for two years. He behaves like a captain and is not going to Real Madrid,” asserted Zanetti.

Inter have done some big business already this summer signing a host of new players including Belgium star Radja Nainggolan and striker Lautaro Martinez.

With Icardi linked to Real Madrid, Inter will be keen to tie up their captain to a new contract.

Inter take on Chelsea tomorrow in the International Champions Cup as they prepare for the new season.
