James Rodriguez says he’s not planning to return to Real Madrid just yet

Bayern Munich loan star James Rodriguez has revealed he has no plans to return to Real Madrid in the short-term, amid speculation about where he will play in the 2018/19 season.

The Colombian star is on loan at Bayern Munich from the Spanish giants in a two-year deal; the first year of which he has just been completed.

There is mounting speculation that Julen Lopetegui wants Rodriguez to be part of his squad at the Santiago Bernabeu for the coming season, but the player has revealed that he would prefer to stay in Germany for the time being.

Real Madrid signed the attacking midfielder from Monaco after he exploded onto the world stage during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but after initially impressing during his first season, he has struggled to maintain that form and was sent out on loan to Bayern Munich.

The loan deal cost the German side €13m with Madrid maintaining a clause to purchase the midfielder back. Yet despite Lopetegui’s comments, Rodriguez appears resolved to see out the two-year deal.

The Colombian has regained his confidence with the German champions and does not feel it would be right to return to Madrid considering the warm, friendly reception he has received from the Bavarian club and its fans.

“So far I am still with Bayern and I’m happy here because the club has shown a lot of affection, for both the people and the team,” said James, as quoted by Marca.

The 27-year-old completed a successful first season at the Allianz Arena, netting eight times in 40 appearances including a goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final.

Bayern Munich take on Manchester City on Sunday in the International Champions Cup as both sides prepare for the new season.
