Jose Mourinho open to Matteo Darmian exit

Jose Mourinho has revealed he is relaxed about Matteo Darmian leaving Manchester United.

Darmian’s playing time has diminished since Mourinho arrived at Old Trafford. When the Italian was brought to the club by Louis van Gaal in 2015, he made 28 appearances in the Premier League.

However, last season he only made eight appearances in the league – including only five starts – as well as 17 across all competitions.

Now the Italian full-back has been linked with a return to his home country with either Inter Milan, Juventus or Napoli reported destinations for the 28-year-old, and Mourinho seems to be quite relaxed about a move if the money is right.

“Matteo wants to leave and I think when a player wants to leave, if the right offer arrives you have to try to be human and let the player follow his instinct but not at any price,” Mourinho said, via Sky Sports.

“Until now, the offers we got for Matteo are not even close to being accepted.

“If Matteo leaves he leaves because the right offer arrives and if he stays, yes you are right, he can be important for us.”

United sold another of Van Gaal’s signings earlier this month when they accepted a bid from Ajax for Daley Blind, and reports claim that Anthony Martial is also heading towards the exit door after being relegated to the bench for the second half of last season.

Man Utd are rumoured to be pursuing Ivan Perisic as a replacement for the young Frenchman, but they only have until August 9 to complete the deal.

United will play Liverpool on Saturday in the International Champions Cup before taking on Real Madrid, and then face Leicester City in the Premier League on 10 August.
