Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane believes Paul Pogba has earned the right to enjoy his elaborate lifestyle after World Cup victory.
Pogba, 25, produced a number of scintillating performances as France clinched their first World Cup triumph since 1998.
Les Bleus devastated Croatia 4-2 in the Moscow final, with Pogba getting himself on the scoresheet, netting his homeland’s third on the night after guiding the ball into the back of the net with his weaker foot.
The Manchester midfielder started six matches for Didier Deschamps’ side, and it was his imperious partnership with N’golo Kante in the middle of the park that helped the Europeans clinch their international title.
Pogba has been widely criticised for his antics away from the pitch, including posting theatrical dance moves on social media, as well as donning some extravagant hairstyles.
However, after his World Cup performances, Keane has welcomed Pogba’s flamboyant lifestyle, believing the midfielder can now do what he likes, providing he can replicate his international form at club level.
During ITV’s coverage of the tournament, he told the studio: “I don’t mind Pogba dancing now. He’s entitled to it.”
Prompting chief presenter Mark Pougatch to ask if Keane minds Pogba’s “silly hair,” to which the Irishman responded: “Yeah he can do whatever the hell he wants!”
The Frenchman has struggled for consistency at Old Trafford since moving from Juventus in 2016; with the season just gone proving especially difficult for Pogba as he was dropped from United’s starting XI at the start of the year.
This lead to speculation that a fractious relationship with manager Jose Mourinho had formed – which Pogba has since confirmed – as well as sparking rumours of a possible departure from the 13-time Premier League champions.
After the World Cup final, former United defender Rio Ferdinand openly challenged Mourinho to help Pogba recapture his international form at the quadrennial tournament with the Red Devils this upcoming season.
