Liverpool complete world-record move for Alisson after Mo Salah text

Liverpool have announced the signing of Alisson from Roma for a fee of £65m, making the Brazilian the most-expensive goalkeeper in history.

The 25-year-old had long been linked with a move to the Anfield club since the end of last season, with the Reds unhappy with their goalkeeping options at the time.

Jurgen Klopp’s men had faced a challenge from the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid for the Brazilian shot-stopper but finally got his man for an initial fee of £55.91m and up to £8.95m in extras (as revealed by Roma’s official website) for a rough total of £65m.

And speaking upon his arrival at his new club, Alisson mentioned the huge step he is taking in his career.

“I’m really happy, it’s a dream come true to wear such a prestigious shirt for a club of this size that is used to always winning,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

“In terms of my life and my career, it’s a huge step for me being part of this club and this family.

“You can be certain that I’ll give my all.”

The Brazilian also revealed a text conversation he had with former Roma team-mate Mohamed Salah as he was finalising his move to Liverpool, with the Egyptian asking what was taking so long.

“We didn’t have that much contact after he left Roma. We met again in the game when we were up against each other [in the Champions League in April],” Alisson added.

“Yesterday, he sent me a message saying: ‘Hey, what are you waiting for?’ As the negotiations were at an advanced stage, I replied to him straight away saying: ‘Calm down, I’m on my way!’

“I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play alongside him again. As well as being a great player, he is a huge character and a great person – which is the most important thing.

“To be with these great people and players day to day is fantastic for me.”

However, Klopp did warn Liverpool fans Alisson may need some time to adapt to the Premier League – though is excited about the prospects.

“The full package is just good,” he told the club’s official website.

“How we all do, he needs to adapt to the English Premier League, that’s how it is. The league is different, the refs are different, the goalkeeper life is different in the Premier League.

“But that’s not important now because again, we got him here because of his existing strengths, which is in all goalkeeper departments the highest level.

“But of course he still has to adapt and age-wise he can improve, the best years are coming in the goalkeeper life, so it’s all good.”

Alisson’s arrival in the Premier League for a world-record fee for a goalkeeper means England’s top flight boasts the record for the world’s most expensive back five.

Those five players are shared between two clubs, Liverpool and Manchester City with the Reds also buying Virgil van Dijk for £75m in January, while the reigning Premier League champions brought in Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte and Benjamin Mendy for big fees.

Liverpool fans react to their new signing

Alisson’s signing will see him replace Loris Karius as Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper, something Reds fans were excited about following the announcement.
