How to watch the pre-season friendly
Liverpool v Dortmund can be caught by UK residents on LFCTV and Premier Sports. Liverpool v Dortmund live stream options can be found on both sites too.
What new signings can we expect to see?
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri will be travelling to the US to join up with the Liverpool squad after their efforts at the World Cup. However, Klopp has confirmed neither Mane nor Salah are expected to feature for the Reds until the club’s final game of the International Champions Cup, which is against Manchester United on July 28.
New signings Naby Keita and Fabinho will be part of the travelling squad and will likely play against Dortmund, while Loris Karius will continue in his role as Liverpool’s No.1 despite more errors since the Champions League final against Tranmere Rovers and the suggestion that Liverpool might sign another ‘keeper.
Klopp has already confirmed that Firmino will miss the USA pre-season trip entirely thanks to Brazil’s run to the quarter-finals of the World Cup. The forward will return to a training camp in France later in July.
Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, as well as Simon Mignolet and Croatia defender Dejan Lovren will return a week later, meaning they will have just a week before the club’s opening fixture against West Ham on August 12.
For Dortmund, Christian Pulisic will line up despite being heavily linked to a host of clubs from the Premier League and elsewhere. The American will return to his homeland for the second time in three months when Dortmund fly across the Atlantic for the International Champions Cup.
Maximilian Philipp and Andre Schurrle are expected to feature up front for the Ruhr club, as the Bundesliga giants continue to identify strikers that can guarantee 20+ goals a season within their price-range.
New signings Abdou Diallo and Marius Wolf will be part of the travelling party, as will Jadon Sancho. Thomas Delaney will join up with his new teammates after a break following Denmark’s run at the World Cup.
Liverpool v Dortmund: head-to-head records and pre-match stats
Since Klopp took over at Liverpool, the two clubs have played twice, drawing once in the Europa League with Liverpool winning the reverse home fixture. The German side will be hoping to improve on that head-to-head record.
As for Liverpool v Dortmund stats in terms of how pre-season has gone, both teams have only just begun their schedules, with the Reds beating Chester 7-0 on July 7, before dispatching Tranmere Rovers in an eventful 3-2 three days later, and drawing 0-0 with Bury on July 14.
The Reds will be hoping to improve on their fourth-place finish last season and genuinely challenge for the Premier League title until the very end, and will also be hoping to pick up silverware generally after narrowly missing out on the Champions League title last term.
Dortmund meanwhile have just played once, beating Austria Wien 1-0 on July 13.
The Black and Yellows will want to challenge Bayern Munich more spiritedly than last season, where they came third, and will be hoping for a better performance in the Champions League after dropping out at the group stage last year.
Like their Premier League counterparts, silverware by way of cups would be greatly welcomed by a club feeding off the scraps left by Bayern, and so Liverpool v Dortmund represents an intriguing game for both sides with similar objectives looking ahead to the new season.
