Former Chelsea and Aston Villa defender John Terry has insisted that he has had no contact with the Premier League club regarding a potential move for Villa star Jack Grealish.
Terry left the Villians after the club lost 1-0 to Fulham in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium in May, leaving the Midlands side to once again ply their trade in England’s second highest division.
This meant rumours have been non-stop regarding Villa midfielder Grealish and a potential move to a Premier League club, with the talented youngster deemed too good to be playing in the Championship again.
Terry’s positive relationship with both Grealish and Chelsea had led to reports that the former England captain would be instrumental in fashioning a move for Grealish to the Stamford Bridge club.
However, Terry had come out and responded to rumours of this scenario, stating that he has had no part to play in Grealish’s future.
Terry posted a comment on Instagram congratulating Villa defender James Chester for being appointed new Aston Villa club captain. He used this post to clarify the Grealish rumours.
Terry said: “Congrats Skip @jameschester23. Delighted your staying mate we need you.
“Just to clarify I haven’t had any conversations with Chelsea regarding Jack [Grealish], we all know he is good enough to play in the Premier League but we all want to see him do that with @avfcofficial [Aston Villa Football Club]. Come on boys good luck this season. UTV [Up the Villians]”
The Championship season starts tonight with the Premier League season beginning next Friday. The summer transfer window closes at 5pm next Thursday afternoon.
