Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has explained how he plans on using England midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek in his team this year.
After featuring for England at this summer’s World Cup, many fans are eager to see Loftus-Cheek given an opportunity in Chelsea’s first team, having spent last season on loan with Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace.
So far this season, however, Loftus-Cheek has made just one substitute appearance and faces midfield competition from the likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley and Cesc Fabregas.
But new manager, Sarri, has offered hope to Loftus-Cheek by hinting that the powerful midfielder will play an important role in his side this season.
Chelsea were drawn against PAOK, BATE Borisov of Belarus and Hungarian outfit MOL Vidi in Friday’s Europa League draw and Sarri says Loftus-Cheek will have a big part to play when the Blues’ busy schedule kicks in.
“I think that he will be important for sure. Starting in September, we will play every three days, so Loftus will be very important and useful for us,” Sarri told reporters.
“It’s not easy to play here, because here there are 20, 25 very good players, so it’s not easy to play in the starting XI, but I think if he will improve more, he is ready to play from the beginning.
“I can say that I am really very happy with him because, in the last 10 days, he has improved a lot. So we’re really very happy with him.”

Sarri was also asked why Loftus-Cheek hasn’t featured more often so far this season, to which he replied: “Because he has to improve, just in order to play my football.
“He has great qualities from a physical point of view, and technical point of view. I think he needs to improve from the tactical point of view, nothing else.”
Chelsea host Bournemouth this Saturday in their final game before the first international break of the season, after a good start under Sarri winning all three matches so far.
