Pogba adamant that Man Utd must “bounce back” after Spurs defeat

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba believes his side will be able to bounce back from their “cruel” defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Jose Mourinho’s men lost 3-0 to Spurs on Monday, leading them to their worst start to a Premier League season since 1992 – where they accumulated one point from their first three games.

The defeat to Spurs came just a week after United lost 3-2 to Brighton & Hove Albion, amid reports of unrest between Mourinho and the club’s hierarchy.

But Pogba believes his side can turn their season around after their poor start.

“I think it was an undeserved defeat for us, in our desire, in everything we put into it,” Pogba told Sky Sports.

“But football can be cruel. We just have to bounce back.

“It won’t be easy, but it’s just the start of the season. I prefer to start badly and end well than start well and finish badly.

“It’s bizarre. (Against Tottenham) we were determined, we started well, and in the end we lost 3-0. It’s a shock.”

United had actually started the game the better of the two sides and had opportunities to take a good lead into half-time, something Pogba admitted confused his team-mates.

“Even we don’t understand what happened,” he added. “We started the game really well, we conceded two goals in the second half.

“The first goal was a real blow, we didn’t understand why, because we had the game in hand. One goal, two…we kept pushing, we had chances, and we conceded the third.

“The fans kept pushing us, they were really behind us. We feel really sorry for them, very disappointed, we wanted to do better.”

Manchester United will be hoping to overturn their poor start on Sunday, when they take on Burnley in their final game before the first international break of the season.

Pogba’s season so far

Despite reaching, and winning, the World Cup final with France this summer Pogba returned early to Manchester and has started in each of United’s three games so far this season.

Captaining the side on two occasions, the Frenchman scored from the penalty spot in an opening day 2-1 win over Leicester City before getting a consolation goal in the 3-2 defeat to Burnley.

But, playing in a more advanced position against Spurs, Pogba was frustrated and could do little to help his side slump to back-to-back defeats.
