Barcelona’s top-passer Ivan Rakitic speaks out amid PSG links

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has insisted he has no plans to leave the club amid links to Paris Saint-Germain.

Rakitic played in every game for Croatia as the reached the World Cup final in Russia, starting all but one.

The Croatian signed for Barcelona in 2014 and still has three years remaining on his current deal but his performances for club and country have piqued the interest of PSG.

But Rakitic has revealed he is happy at the Blaugrana and is hopeful of signing a new, improved, contract soon.

“It will arrive soon, we are not in a hurry,” he told Diario Sport (via Football Espana).

“The club looks after its players and they know that I feel at home here, so I believe I will receive a phone call soon.

“Ernesto Valverde is very important too, he has displayed great confidence in me and he knows what I will give the team.

“I would do everything for the team, I would be willing to sustain an injury for the team if it helped, and there is total trust.

“There is a strong relationship and it is very important.”

Since signing from Sevilla, Rakitic has played 217 times for Barcelona, scoring 29 goals and recording 27 assists.

The Croatian has started in each of Barcelona’s La Liga games so far, with the Blaugrana winning both without conceding. They next face Huesca on Sunday.

Completing the full 90 minutes in each of Barcelona’s two La Liga games so far, no Blaugrana player has attempted more passes than Rakitic’s 214.

Of those, the Croatian has been successful in 199, misplacing just 15, with an accuracy of 93%.

In La Liga, only Toni Kroos has made attempted more passes than Rakitic with 226, completing 220 of them.
