West Ham‘s club-record signing Felipe Anderson is still adjusting to life in the Premier League, says Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Anderson featured from the bench in the club’s first win of the campaign against AFC Wimbledon in the League Cup on Tuesday, with Pellegrini’s side the only club to have failed to register a single point in the Premier League so far this season.
Former Lazio midfielder Anderson, who arrived at West Ham for around £36m this summer, caught the eye against Arsenal on Saturday and has shown glimpses of what he can offer.
Pellegrini says it will take time for the Brazilian to settle in London as he adjusts to the physicality of the Premier League.
“Felipe needs to adapt his style of play to the Premier League a little bit more – not to run with the ball so much because it’s difficult here with so many fast players,” he told reporters following West Ham’s win over AFC Wimbledon.
“But when he has the ball, you feel that something different can happen.”
Hammers must now kick on
West Ham found themselves behind in their Carabao Cup clash against AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday, but second half goals from Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Javier Hernandez eventually saw them progress to the next round.
Ex-City boss Pellegrini believes it’s very important for his side to have got their first win of the season, with attention now turning to the Premier League again.
“It’s important to get the first win, because if you continue losing you can improve a little bit, as we did on Saturday, but you need to win,” he explained.
“That’s always in the minds of the players, they can continue trusting but everyone needs results in football. Now, today we will start preparing for the game on Saturday.”
West Ham will be back in Premier League action against Wolves this Saturday.
