Sheyi Ojo has joined Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims on a season-long loan after signing a new contract with Liverpool, the club have announced.
The 21-year-old winger has scored one goal in 13 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions and has previously spent time on loan at Fulham, Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
He was part of the Fulham side that achieved promotion to the Premier League last season via the Championship play-offs, making 24 appearances for the Londoners and scoring four goals, but will now spend the next year on loan in France.
Stade de Reims were Ligue 2 champions last year, topping France’s second division by 15 points. They are currently sixth in Ligue 1 after winning two of their opening three games and face Montpellier in their next outing.
Most expensive 14-year-old ever
Ojo remains the most expensive 14-year-old ever, according to the Telegraph. When he was just 14, Liverpool paid MK Dons £2.13m to take him to Anfield.
While still a teenager, Ojo made eight appearances during Liverpool’s 2015/16 Premier League campaign.
A number of loan spells have bred uncertainty around Ojo’s chances of one day becoming a first-team regular for last season’s Champions League finalists.
But the fact he has signed a new contract could mean Liverpool still have high hopes for the youngster.
