Former Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta has offered his advice to the club’s new No.8, Arthur.
The Spanish midfielder left the club in the summer after a glittering career with Barca and is now playing his football in Japan with Vissel Kobe.
Iniesta is an icon and his opinion still carries much weight with the fans and players at the Catalan giants.
The player to have taken over the No.8 shirt this season is Brazilian midfielder Arthur, who joined from Gremio for €31m this summer.
When asked what advice he would have for the player, Iniesta told Barcelona TV, as reported by Marca: “My only advice to Arthur would be to be confident about his game because I think he’s got some very strong attributes. And he’s at the ideal club for his football to grow each year.
“He’s still a young lad and he’s surrounded by the best people to learn from. Let’s wish him luck and hope he can show his quality and help make the club even better.”
Barcelona will look to defend their title this season and, alongside Arthur, they have also signed fellow Brazilian Malcom from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
Iniesta thinks the transfer business has struck a nice balance with both experience and youth being brought to the Nou Camp.
“I see a strong team, with important signings, that will compete for every title,” he said, before adding: “Barca have made both young and more experienced signings that will bring depth and character.”
Andrés Iniesta has now won 31 trophies at Barcelona.

Despite still wanting to continue his playing career, the midfielder does hope to return to Barcelona in some capacity in the future.
“It’s my home and I would like to somehow be able to give back everything that I’ve learned and done in my time there,” he explained.
Barcelona have opened the new La Liga season with two victories against Deportivo Alaves and Real Valladolid without conceding a goal and face league first-timers Huesca next at the Nou Camp.
