Hoffenheim confirm interest in Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson

Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed the club are exploring the possibility of bringing Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson to the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

The talented teenager is considered one of the hottest prospects to emerge from the club’s esteemed academy in recent years, and he made 16 appearances for the club across all competitions last term.

With first-team opportunities limited under new coach Unai Emery, the club have decided that it is in the player’s best interests if he is loaned out to gain valuable experience.

The 18-year-old’s contract will expire at the end of the season, but the club are expecting to announce an extension prior to any transfer away from north London.

Hoffenheim had been touted as a possible destination for the talented tyro, and manager Nagelsmann has now confirmed their fervent interest in the player.

Speaking to reporters, he said: “We’ve taken an interest in Nelson, I can disclose that.

“But nothing is set in stone as there are still things to clear up. If it all works out, we’ll have a player with great pace who can do a lot with the ball.”

Should Nelson sign for Die Kraichgauer on a temporary basis then he would be following in the footsteps of a number of teenagers who have relocated to the Bundesliga in the past season alone.

Notably, Jadon Sancho and Ademola Lookman thrived on German soil last campaign with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig respectively, while the latter has now returned to parent club Everton.

Nelson clinched the Premier League 2 Player of the Year award last term after netting 10 goals, which ultimately saw Arsenal win the league, and he could flourish under the guidance of one of Europe’s highly-coveted managers.
