Wales manager Ryan Giggs believes Jose Mourinho is the right man for the Manchester United job and says his former club should stick by him this season.
Mourinho is currently under fire with United having lost their previous two Premier League matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.
Giggs took temporary charge of United following David Moyes’ sacking during the final stages of the 2013/14 season and there have been suggestions he would be in line for the job if United were to dismiss Mourinho.
But speaking to reporters ahead of Wales’ upcoming international fixtures, Giggs has insisted that Mourinho is the right man to take United forward.
Asked whether he could become United boss, Giggs said: “Manchester United have got a fantastic manager already there.
“The club are going through a tough time but you’ve got to come through those tough times.
“I don’t see where Manchester United go after Jose Mourinho. I think they’ve got the right man and they should stick with him.
“The club, the players and the fans should stick together.”
Have things gone against Mourinho recently?
Giggs, who is the most-decorated player in English football history, also added that he felt Mourinho’s side were unlucky in their 3-0 defeat to Spurs on Monday.
Romelu Lukaku missed a golden opportunity to put his side 1-0 up in the early stages of the game and many believe United’s performance was actually an improvement on their previous two matches, with Giggs adding: “It is always difficult for a manager after a result like that.
“I was at the game and I understand Jose’s frustration because on another day United win that game.
“They didn’t and then because of the way the game ended with the third goal, it looks worse than it was. Losing the game before, everything gathers pace.
“The good thing about football is that you always have the next game to come back. It is all about concentrating on that game against Burnley, everything else outside is noise that you can’t control.
“You can only control what you can do. Manchester United have got a fantastic manager, a fantastic group of players and it is a fantastic club.
“They will come out of it hopefully sooner rather than later.”
