Claudio Bravo thanks Real Madrid for “noble” letter following Achilles injury

Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has thanked Real Madrid after revealing the Spanish club had sent him a letter of support following his Achilles injury.

Bravo is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he tore his Achilles tendon earlier this month, prompting City to recall young ‘keeper Aro Muric from his loan spell with NAC Breda in Holland.

And, via his Twitter page, Bravo has revealed that Real Madrid – arch-rivals of Bravo’s former club, Barcelona – have sent him a letter of support.

Bravo wrote: “Thank you very much to Real Madrid for such a noble gesture. Acts like this reflect very well on football. A hug.”

While the letter from the Spanish giants translated to: “On behalf of all those who form Real Madrid, especially our president, Florentino Perez, I want to send you our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

“We are very sorry about what happened, as injuries are the worst part of football, but we have no doubt that, with your professionalism and commitment, you will continue to give many joys to football fans.

“With all our respect and admiration.”

After making 75 appearances in just over two years for Barcelona, winning two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and a Champions League medal in the process, Bravo joined Pep Guardiola at Manchester City in 2016.

Despite losing his place to Ederson last season, the 119-time Chilean international has still made 44 appearances for the Citizens, winning a Premier League title, as well as last season’s League Cup – in the final of which he provided an assist for Sergio Aguero’s opener.

Manchester City’s next game is at home to Newcastle United on Saturday as they continue their Premier League title defence.

First Watmore, now Bravo

Despite the absence of any explanation behind Madrid’s gesture, the Man City goalkeeper is not the first to receive such a message from the Champions League winners.

Sunderland forward Duncan Watmore was also sent a similar letter of support in December 2017.

The 24-year-old, still currently sidelined, was sent the letter after a reoccurrence of the same cruciate knee ligament injury that had ruled him out for 10 months.
