“We get on really well” – Aubameyang happy to accommodate Lacazette upfront

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that he is happy to accommodate fellow club forward Alexandre Lacazette in the Gunners line-up.

With the Gunners often utilising just one out-and-out striker in their formation, it has been difficult to try and envisage both strikers playing regularly and in their preferred positions.

Since arriving last summer from Ligue 1 side Lyon – costing Arsenal £46.5 million in the process – Lacazette has struggled to find consistent form in Arsenal colours. Despite a strong goalscoring start in north London, the Frenchman only finished the season with 14 league goals in 32 matches.

Aubameyang arrived at the end of this year’s January transfer window – making the move from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of £56 million – and has had slightly better fortune for the Gunners, scoring 10 league goals in 14 league appearances to date.

However, Aubameyang has insisted that, despite the fact that Lacazette is direct competition for his place in the starting line-up, he wants new manager Unai Emery to try and find a way to field both strikers this season for Arsenal.

Speaking to ESPN (via AS), Aubameyang said: “We really get on well. There is a spark between us when we are both on the pitch together.

“We look for each other, we saw it [on Sunday] against City when he came on. I don’t mind playing on the left if Laca is in the centre. We both want to do our best for the team.”

Arsenal lost 2-0 to Manchester City on Sunday and face another tough battle this coming weekend against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
