Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has admitted that French champions Paris Saint-Germain made an approach for him during his World Cup winning summer.
Kante was one of the stars of the tournament as Les Bleus secured a second World Cup crown, prompting PSG to make an approach for his services.
However, the 27-year-old has insisted that, despite being born in Paris, he had no reason to leave Stamford Bridge and is happy to remain in west London for the foreseeable future.
“There was no urge to go elsewhere after the World Cup,” the 2016/17 Premier League Player of the Season told RMC Sport (via Sky Sports).
“There were other clubs’ interests but after talking to Chelsea, things were clear. The club is counting on me and I feel good. The next logical step was to continue to Chelsea.
“There were some contacts [from PSG]. But after a discussion with Chelsea, I realised that the main thing was to feel good where I was.
“I am at Chelsea. It’s good for me to stay at Chelsea.”
Since joining Chelsea from Leicester City in 2016, Kante has made 94 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, winning the Premier League and FA Cup in the process.
Kante clocked up 595 minutes on the pitch in the World Cup this summer, playing in all seven games as France brought international football’s biggest prize home for the first time since 1998.
His Chelsea side have also started the season in fine form, winning all five of their games so far.
Next up for Kante and Chelsea is an away tie at PAOK in Greece on Thursday in the Europa League.
