Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he feels guilty for not playing talented youngster Phil Foden much so far this season, but insists the midfielder will get his chance in the coming weeks.
Foden is thought of as one of England’s most-promising rising stars and is expected to go on and attempt to secure his place in the Manchester City starting XI.
Only 18 years of age, Foden has plenty of time to continue improving his game and under Pep Guardiola, and had a taste of first-team football this season, starring in City’s 2-0 Community Shield win over Chelsea.
However, since the beginning of the current Premier League campaign, Guardiola has opted to play his regular starters rather than Foden.
Guardiola has admitted that although he feels guilty not giving Foden more time on the pitch, he has highlighted City’s hectic schedule as a chance for the midfielder to get some minutes under his belt.
Speaking to Goal he said: “I feel guilty, he deserves to play but he doesn’t play.
“I feel guilty but he is going to play a lot this season. After the game the players were exhausted, now we start to play two games a week, he is going to play.”
Manchester City defeated Fulham 3-0 at the weekend thanks to goals from Leroy Sane, David Silva and Raheem Sterling.
Their next fixture is against Lyon on Wednesday in their first Champions League match of the season.
