Ramos: Griezmann’s Ballon d’Or comments shows his ignorance

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has hit out at Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann for comparing himself with football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Frenchman recently revealed how he is targeting a Ballon d’Or win before he retires from professional football, stating he is at the same playing level as both Messi and Ronaldo.

Despite this claim, Griezmann is yet to win the award and can only look on in envy at how many the aforementioned names have earned throughout their careers.

Messi has five Ballon d’Or wins to his name, as does Ronaldo. Nobody else has won the award since 2007, when Brazilian star Kaka was presented with the honour.

And Real Madrid defender Ramos has laughed off Griezmann’s claims, with the Spanish international believing the Frenchman is showing elements of ignorance in what he has said.

“Ignorance makes you very bold,” Ramos told reporters on Tuesday (via Football Espana).

“When I hear this boy talk, I remember players like (Francesco) Totti, Raul, (Gianluigi) Buffon, (Iker) Casillas, (Paolo) Maldini, Xavi or (Andres) Iniesta who have won everything but do not have a Ballon d’Or.

“Everyone is free to voice their opinion but I think he should take the advice of (Diego) Simeone, (Diego) Godin or Koke who represent the values that serve them [Atletico Madrid] well.

“I have always said that he (Griezmann) is a great player and I wish him the best.”

Atletico Madrid have made an indifferent start to the new season so far.

After beating Real Madrid in the European Super Cup, Simeone’s side have picked up just five points from their opening four La Liga matches, with Griezmann only managing a single goal in that time.

Los Colchoneros did, however, win 2-1 away at Monaco in their opening Champions League game while Real and Ramos kick off their defence of the trophy against Roma on Wednesday.
