Tevez explains the difference between Ronaldo and Messi

Carlos Tevez has enjoyed a pretty impressive career playing alongside the best players in the world.

One of the few to have been a team-mate of both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, he is well-placed to compare the qualities of two of the finest magicians to have graced the game.

The 34-year-old, now back at hometown club Boca Juniors once more after a year with Shanghai Shenhua, outlined the notable differences between the two men.

“Lionel Messi, I never saw him in the gym,” Tevez told reporters (via Goal). “I’ve never seen him train to stop the ball or those exercises.

“It is all natural to him, but on penalties he trained: first he did not take them and now he shoots them all at the corner.”

“Cristiano always stopped in the gym after training: for him it is an obsession and, being the best in everything, he always arrived at work early.”

Messi and Ronaldo have been engaged in a statistical arms race against each other since they first collided in La Liga back in 2009.

In that time, there has never been a league season in which either player has scored fewer than 25 goals, with Messi netting a remarkable 73 in 60 matches across all competitions for Barcelona in 2011-12.

Ronaldo’s start to life at Juventus has been rocky and it remains to be seen if Portugal’s talisman can maintain his astonishing levels of consistency in Italy as he enters the twilight of his career.
