Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed the club are happy with current manager Ernesto Valverde.
The Barcelona manager has been responding to questions about his future in the past few days as he will soon enter the final 18 months of his current deal.
The manager brought home the La Liga title and the Copa del Rey last season although a dramatic defeat in the Champions League against Roma was an unfortunate blot on his record.
Bartomeu was asked about whether he was happy with the current boss in an interview with El Matà de Catalunya Rà dio to which he responded: “Ernesto Valverde? He has a contract here for this season and next.
“We are very happy with Ernesto, who is clear with his model and has coherence with us.”
The Catalonian club went back to the top of La Liga when they beat Sevilla 4-2 at the weekend. The side have been inconsistent over that last few weeks with the win ending a run of four games without a victory.
Despite that Barcelona have only lost once in La Liga this season and Valverde told reporters following the victory over Sevilla that he wasn’t thinking about his future.
“My future at Barca does not matter to me, I do not care. I’m focused on the two matches that come and the noise that there is always around the team is the usual and you cannot do anything.”
The Barcelona sporting director Pep Segura has also commented in the last few days about the future of the manager saying that nothing has yet been decided.
“Ernesto Valverde? He is on a two-year deal and there is an option to add a third, we will come to a decision which suits both parties.”
Barcelona now look to their Champions League fixture against Inter Milan on Wednesday ahead of next weekend’s El Clasico – both of which they must do without Lionel Messi, with the Argentinian out for the foreseeable future with an injury.
