Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has the potential to become one of the greatest players ever, according to team-mate Gianluigi Buffon.
Mbappe is enjoying his second year in Paris after joining the club from Monaco in 2017, initially on a season-long long with the deal officially being made permanent in the summer.
The teenager already has a number of trophies to his name, winning two Ligue 1 titles – one with Monaco and another with PSG – the French Cup and French League Cup as well as the small matter of the World Cup with France this summer.
And Buffon, who joined PSG in the summer, believes Mbappe can keep building on his already impressive career to become one of the best in history.
“If he maintains the desire to be number one, to be a great champion and have the humility to work to improve, he will have an incredible career ahead of him,” he told Canal+ (via Goal).
“And when I say incredible, I mean one of the best in history.
“Maintaining the mentality is the biggest obstacle because he is still very young and it could take him maybe 15 years. Having the right mindset over such a long time isn’t easy. It requires a lot of energy.
“But I’ve told him this because I know he can do it. He has the strength to do it.”
Mbappe: Europe’s joint-top scorer
Mbappe has had a stunning start to the current season with Paris Saint-Germain, failing only to score in one of his eight appearances so far.
The teenager has scored nine goals in Ligue 1 so far, the joint-most of any player in Europe’s top five leagues alongside Genoa’s Krzysztof Piatek.
This comes despite Mbappe missing four league games for PSG, three as part of a suspension following a red card in a 4-2 win over Nimes.
Failing to score against Nice, in his first game back from suspension, Mbappe followed that up with four goals against Lyon before getting another against Amiens last time out.
