Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has the ability to reach the levels of Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Jamie Redknapp.
Martial scored twice as the Red Devils drew 2-2 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, his first brace for the club since November 2016.
The double had looked to have given United all three points, having come from behind, but Ross Barkley’s late equaliser ensured a share of the points.
But despite United’s failure to win, former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has tipped Martial to become a great for the club if he can build on his own performance against Chelsea.
“It’s very difficult, when you’re in and out of the team as a player, to get any sort of rhythm,” he said during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the match.
“We don’t know how he trains, but when you’re not playing one week to the next it’s difficult to get any real rhythm.
“If you’re scoring two goals at Stamford Bridge, it tells you that you are a player. He’s got to show that. He’s had a tough time, he didn’t make the World Cup squad.
“When you look at him, we should be talking about him in the same breath as the likes of Sane. He should be playing regularly, and so should [Marcus] Rashford.
“It would be a massive gamble to sell that boy. I wouldn’t want him to go anywhere else, because he could make a real fool of you. The talent he possesses, the great United wingers we’ve seen over the years, he has the talent to be as good as any of them.”

Martial’s brace saw the Frenchman reach 40 goals for Manchester United since signing in 2015, more than any other player at the club during that time.
Whilst comparisons to Ronaldo should certainly be reserved for the time being, how does Martial compare statistically?
The Portuguese winger scored 84 goals and provided 34 assists in 196 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils – 0.60 goals or assists per game.
Martial, meanwhile, has scored 27 goals and served up a further 15 for his team-mates in 92 top-flight games – 0.46 goals or assists per game.
Cristiano Ronaldo also won three titles, two Player of the Season awards and one Golden Boot during his time in Manchester; Redknapp has set Martial the loftiest of targets.
Martial’s curious career at United
Signing in 2015, under Louis van Gaal, Martial’s United Premier League career got off to a flying start with the Frenchman a regular in the starting line-up (29 times) scoring 11 goals in the process.
But following Jose Mourinho’s arrival in 2016, the Frenchman has seen his use spiral downwards with just 40 more starts across the following two-and-a-bit seasons.
This has led to speculation over Martial’s future, with the club reportedly willing to sell the forward in the summer only for a move to be vetoed by Mourinho.
