More Brent than Rodgers? Jurgen Klopp teased on Twitter for Liverpool T.E.A.M talk

Jurgen Klopp has become the subject of widespread mockery on Twitter after revealing the details of his first ever team meeting with the Liverpool squad back in 2015.

Klopp marked three years in the Anfield dugout on Monday and has led the Reds to three cup finals during that time – the 2016 League Cup and Europa League finals as well as last season’s Champions League final – losing all three.

During an interview with Premier League Productions (via the official Liverpool website), the 51-year-old has looked back on his time with Liverpool so far, including his first-ever meeting with the team where he wrote ‘TEAM’ in large letters on a flip-board and asked members of the club’s staff to introduce themselves and explain their roles at the club.

“I remember I wrote in big letters on a paper the word ‘TEAM’ and I said that is what I want us to be,” the former Borussia Dortmund boss explained.

“I said ‘T’ is for terrible to play against – I had not a better word unfortunately… I don’t know if I have a better one now. ‘E’ for enthusiastic. ‘A’ for ambitious. ‘M’ for mentally-strong machines.

“Sometimes, we are exactly that! We can be terrible opponents to face, we have this kind of excited – a bit crazy if you want – style with organisation. We are for sure very enthusiastic and very ambitious and we have become stronger and stronger mentality-wise. Pretty much all of my players work like machines too, so I have actually what I wanted.”

Twitter reacts to Klopp’s Liverpool ‘T.E.A.M’ talk

Klopp may have meant well with this initial introduction to his squad and, arguably, he has actually implemented a lot of what he laid out to the players in the first place.

However, that hasn’t stopped Twitter going wild in reacting and mocking the Liverpool boss, with some rather creative inputs from social media users.

Some fans even compared Klopp’s method to an incident that occurred under Liverpool’s previous manager, Brendan Rodgers, that is often parodied with the Ricky Gervais character ‘David Brent’, from the hit TV show, The Office.

What started the Brendan Rodgers-David Brent comparison?

Shortly after arriving at Liverpool’s Melwood training facility, and before a competitive ball was even kicked, Brendan Rodgers surprisingly allowed TV cameras from US broadcaster FOX to film a fly-on-the-wall documentary about how the club were adjusting to life under their new manager.

When the programme was aired on Channel five in 2012, Rodgers found himself on the wrong end of some very strong criticism and an incredible, unexpected comparison to the Office character, David Brent, due to his unconventional motivational techniques.

The nadir came when Rodgers was pictured holding up three envelopes to his players during a pre-season meeting, claiming the envelopes contained the names of three players who would ‘let us down this year’.

This was a technique that Sir Alex Ferguson famously used back in 1993 to keep his Man United side grounded, with the Scot eventually revealing that the envelopes were empty.

However, it backfired spectacularly on Rodgers as his side lost their first game of the season 3-0, with Rodgers being unable to shake off the moniker ever since.

It could be worse Jurgen, couldn’t it?
