Oleksandr Zinchenko is excited by idea of Napoli move, says agent

Manchester City midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko is still open to the possibility of moving to Serie A giants Napoli in the future, according to his agent.

Zinchenko was once wanted by Arsenal, according to another representative, but the Ukraine international hasn’t been given the opportunity to play regular football for Pep Guardiola’s City side and was close to moving away from the club in the summer.

Premier League new-boys Wolverhampton Wanderers were reportedly close to bringing the 21-year-old to the Midlands, with Napoli also keen on the signing the talented youngster.

Despite no transfer developing, Zinchenko’s agent, Alan Prudnikov, has revealed that the player is keen to re-discuss options in January because of his lack of playing time for the reigning Premier League champions.

“We are always open to proposals coming from Italy,” agent Alan Prudnikov told Italian radio, according to Football Italia.

“Napoli showed interest both over the summer and the year before, but never managed to find an agreement with Manchester City.

“I met with (Napoli director Cristiano) Giuntoli and we laid down the foundations of a deal with Zinchenko, but the two clubs could not agree on a fee. We’d be ready to discuss it again, though.

“Zinchenko doesn’t get much playing time because he is in an extremely strong squad with a lot of competition. The games will come because Zinchenko is training with the first team and will certainly play.

“We’ll see what happens over the next two months. Working with the best in the world allows you to improve and so he is improving.

“The prospect of working with Carlo Ancelotti is exciting to Zinchenko, but again it all depends on the two clubs reaching an agreement. He is a great Coach, one of the best in the world, and Napoli play beautiful football in the Champions League.

“They have everything it takes to attract Zinchenko to Naples.”

To date, the midfielder has played just one match in the league this season for Guardiola’s side. Overall, Zinchenko has made just 16 appearances in a Manchester City shirt, meaning that a move away may be best for both parties.

What’s next for Manchester City?

Pep Guardiola’s side face Burnley at the Etihad Stadium next Saturday having started the season in the same emphatic form as last year. They subsequently play Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

City currently sit top of the Premier League on 20 points having won six games, drawn twice and still remain unbeaten after eight matches. Their next big test in the competition is fast approaching, however, with a trip to Spurs scheduled for Monday 29 October.
