FIFA 19 is nearly 20 days old, meaning countless hours have already been invested in the latest edition of the series.
For many a FIFA enthusiast, Ultimate Team or Pro Clubs are the go-to modes, focussing on pitting themselves against players from around the world either on their own or with friends.
But for others, the career mode is where they’ll be spending most of their time playing manager.
Yes, the offline elements of FIFA are often neglected with every new instalment, but this also means the things that made past editions so fun have been preserved. Few games can make players repeat the same process over and over again like FIFA compels gamers to work their way through multiple seasons in their quest for league titles and glory in the Champions League, the image rights to which EA finally landed this year.
The Premier League is the biggest league in the world for some and, with the ratings for FIFA 19 now all released, we know who the top-rated players in the Premier League will be. But, with regards to career mode, who will become the top talents as the seasons go by? Well, below are the top 10 Premier League players based on their highest final potential rating in FIFA 19.
10. Dele Alli (90)
Age: 22
Current club: Tottenham Hotspur
Position: CAM
Initial rating: 84
If everything goes to plan in your career modes, the Premier League will have 14 players rated 90 or above (excluding transfers from other leagues and youngsters generated by FIFA), with Dele Alli sneaking into the top 10 ahead of Bernardo Silva, Ederson, N’Golo Kante and Alisson on account of a greater improvement upon his initial rating, as well as his younger age.
The Spurs midfielder has enjoyed a good career so far since joining from MK Dons in 2015, and EA expect him to continue on that path to become one of the best players in the Premier League.
9. Eden Hazard (91)
Age: 27
Current club: Chelsea
Position: LW
Initial rating: 91 (+0)
The only player on the list whose highest potential rating is equal to his current one. They clearly believe Eden Hazard is at the peak of his game at 27 years old.
Hazard has four-star skills and four-star weak foot as well as 91 pace and 94 dribbling, making him one of the most frightening players in FIFA 19 – though don’t expect him to get any better for your club.
8. Christian Eriksen (91)
Age: 26
Current club: Tottenham Hotspur
Position: CAM
Initial rating: 88 (+3)
The second of three Tottenham players in the top 10, Christian Eriksen’s importance for the north London club has seen him rewarded with an initial rating of 88.
But the developers at FIFA expect him to get even better, giving the Danish playmaker a potential rating of 91, on par with the likes of Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne’s initial stats.
7. Paul Pogba (91)
Age: 25
Current club: Manchester United
Position: CM
Initial rating: 88 (+3)
Jose Mourinho may still be struggling to get the best out of Paul Pogba at Manchester United, but if you can do so in FIFA 19, you’ll be dealing with a 91-rated central midfielder.
Aged 25 as the game starts, Pogba can still be one for the future at your club, and with five-star skill moves and 90 ball control, the Frenchman will be devastatingly creative in the middle of the pitch.
6. Kepa Arrizabalaga (91)
Age: 23
Current club: Chelsea
Position: GK
Initial rating: 83 (+8)
When Chelsea forked out £75m on Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer, some fans were wondering whether it was justified for a goalkeeper.
But EA Sports seem to believe he could develop into a player with ability worthy of such a fee, with the Spaniard potentially rising as high as 91 in career mode and, at 23, Arrizabalaga has at least another decade ahead of him.
5. Kevin De Bruyne (92)
Age: 27
Current club: Manchester City
Position: CAM
Initial rating: 91 (+1)
He’s the joint-highest rated Premier League player at the start of the game, and Kevin De Bruyne has the potential to go one better in career mode.
De Bruyne was influential for Manchester City in their title win last season, recording more assists than any other player (16), and once he has returned from injury, the Belgian is expected to continue from where he left off.
4. Harry Kane (92)
Age: 25
Current club: Tottenham Hotspur
Position: ST
Initial rating: 89 (+3)
Harry Kane has not enjoyed the greatest start to the new season with talks of fatigue and overreliance causing detriment.
But EA Sports believe the striker will continue along the path he has been treading for the past few years: scoring goals for fun and rising as high as 92 in career mode.
3. Gabriel Jesus (92)
Age: 21
Current club: Manchester City
Position: ST
Initial rating: 83 (+9)
Gabriel Jesus may currently be playing second fiddle to Sergio Aguero at Manchester City. But, according to the FIFA 19 career mode, it is only a matter of time till the Brazilian surpasses his South American counterpart.
At just 21, Jesus has a long career still ahead of him, so improvements on his finishing, which currently stands at 84 will see him become one of the best strikers on the game.
2. David De Gea (93)
Age: 27
Current club: Manchester United
Position: GK
Initial rating: 91 (+2)
Currently the best goalkeeper in FIFA 19, David De Gea will keep that crown in the Premier League as his career progresses.
The Spaniard’s 90-rated reactions make him a genuine game-changer on in FIFA 19 and life is imitating art right now as De Gea has been heralded as the saviour of Manchester United on many an occasion.
1. Leroy Sane (93)
Age: 22
Current club: Manchester City
Position: LW
Initial rating: 86 (+7)
If you use him more than Pep Guardiola is doing right now, Leroy Sane will become the best player in the Premier League.
Currently rated 86, at 22 years old, the German winger has a frightening pace rating of 95 and an impressive 81 finishing – which can still be improved upon to see Sane reach the 93 overall rating FIFA 19 predicts him to achieve.
