Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen has a “chronic” stomach problem, according to Denmark manager Age Hareide.
Eriksen started the season off in the usual fashion, appearing in Tottenham’s first six Premier League matches, as the Londoners aim to once again establish themselves among the Premier League’s leading pack.
However, the Dane has now been absent from the Spurs line-up since September 22 with what is reported to be a stomach problem for the 26-year-old.
Denmark boss Hareide believes the problem could be more serious than originally anticipated, suggesting the Spurs star could be absent for a significant period of time.
“Such an injury can be chronic, and it is true that Tottenham also fears that,” Hareide told Denmark’s Canal 9.
“It is doubtful whether we will lure him to Dublin and make him play. I do not think that Tottenham is particularly interested in that.”
Asked how long he thinks Eriksen will be out of contention on both the domestic and international stage, Hareide said: “I do not really know. You should ask our doctor.”
Eriksen, who has scored just once for Spurs so far this term, was given the opportunity to prove to Hareide and his staff that he was fit enough to be involved in their upcoming fixtures, but he will play no part.
The Scandinavians face the Republic of Ireland in the Uefa Nations League this weekend before hosting Austria in a friendly next Tuesday.
Spurs travel to West Ham United in the Premier League after the current international break.
