Borussia Dortmund deny Jadon Sancho release clause

How many assists does Jadon Sancho have?

Jadon Sancho’s new contract at Borussia Dortmund is “without a release clause”, according to the club’s head of the licensed player department.

Sancho has come on leaps and bounds this season, with the young Englishman starting the campaign in fantastic form for the Bundesliga side.

Dortmund are currently top of the Bundesliga after seven games – winning five and drawing twice – and are three points clear of second place RB Leipzig and four points ahead of sixth place Bayern Munich.

Part of that is down to the excellent form of Sancho who has ultimately earned himself a bumper new deal ahead of all the interest that is now surrounding him.

Player director Sebastian Kehl confirmed, contrary to rumour, Sancho has no release clause in his new deal but, after, admitted the club are aware of the increased interest in the teenager.

“We are not naïve to not take note of other clubs’ interest,” he told Sky Germany.

“The lads are doing a grand job right now. And thus, there will always be enquiries for the players we have here.

“Especially for players like Jadon Sancho, who has been invited to the England senior squad for the first time.”

Jadon Sancho’s season so far

Winger Jadon Sancho has made a fast-paced start for Borussia Dortmund this season

The 18-year-old is on one hell of a rise this campaign.

Having opted to leave the country when Dortmund bought him for a creditable £8 million from current reigning Champions Manchester City in 2017, there were not many people who would have thought that he would now be considered one of the most promising stars in English football.

Fast forward just over a year and Sancho now has made people sit up and listen. He has already made 22 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions including the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and the Champions League.

This season, he has made 10 appearances in all competitions though only three starts, with the left-winger providing nine assists and scoring once as Dortmund sit pretty in the league and have won both matches so far in their latest Champions League campaign.

To top it off, Sancho has received a shocking but thoroughly deserved call-up by Gareth Southgate to the England squad for their upcoming fixtures against World Cup finalists Croatia and Spain in the Uefa Nations League.
