Keane reacts to Solskjaer's big Man Utd decision v Spurs: "Just incredible"

Robbie Keane believes Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford can become the next Harry Kane.

United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to start the 21-year-old England international ahead of star striker Romelu Lukaku against Spurs on Sunday.

Is Solskjaer getting the best out of Rashford? Five key things to know…

  1. Rashford is a regular for Manchester United and England but has scored just six goals in 23 club appearances this term.
  2. The 21-year-old would continue to be a part of United’s first team under Mourinho but only scored five Premier League goals in his first full campaign.
  3. Despite this, Rashford has made a big contribution to United’s attack this season, creating 19 chances and assisting on six goals.
  4. Rashford’s poor showing in front of goal could be explained by the fact he was played out wide by Jose Mourinho.
  5. Rashford has more goals in four league games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (four) than he did in his previous 14 under José Mourinho this season.

Rashford has started ahead of Lukaku since Solskjaer arrived at the club and it looks like that trend will continue as long as the 21-year-old keeps hitting the back of the net, which he did just before half-time at Wembley on Sunday.

Before the game, Robbie Keane appeared on Sky Sports’ pre-match show, where the former Tottenham and Liverpool centre-forward discussed Rashford’s talents and claimed he’s a genuine No.9.

“He could absolutely become the next Harry Kane, he is a genuine top, top player and is only going to get better,” Keane said.

“Someone like Solskjær can see he is a genuine No.9 – to leave out Romelu Lukaku, a man that’s cost them £75m, to put a 21-year-old is just incredible.”

Speaking ahead of United’s crucial clash the Norwegian seemed to agree with Keane regrading Rashford’s talents. Rashford was also compared with Harry Kane before kick off. When asked about how Rashford compares to Tottenham striker Harry Kane, Solskjaer stated the younger Englishman possesses the potential to match the Spurs forward.

“We can talk about Harry Kane and his class. Marcus has the potential to get up there also,” the Norwegian said.

“He is very exciting to work with and can become a top, top striker. He’s got frightening pace. He’s become stronger and can hold the ball up for us,” added the former United striker.

Gary Neville “loves Rashford to bits”

As well as earning the praise of his manager and Robbie Keane, the 21-year-old forward’s potential has also been celebrated by fellow academy graduate and former United captain Gary Neville.

Neville is particularly impressed with the youngster’s attacking qualities and told Sky Sports: “The spring in the counter-attack is there and Rashford playing up front is fantastic – I love him to bits.

“He’s played nearly 150 games at the age of 21 and his potential is enormous. It’s actually now stepping up beyond the potential to where he will be a top-class player.”
